OUR COMPANY
The name KOLIBRI Metals comes from an analogy of melting steel and the positive effect of a highly effective master of flight in terms of flexibility and speed.
We melt steel and a volcano basically does the same thing. The hummingbird (KOLIBRI) preferably lives around volcanoes in the Central and Latin American regions where it finds the opportunity to expand sufficiently. With a high heart rate and - compared to its body length - an outstanding speed and precision, the hummingbird (KOLIBRI) is one of the most impressive creatures.
But not only the speed of the hummingbird is impressive, but also its flexibility is unique.
It is possible for the hummingbird (KOLIBRI) to move freely in a 3-dimensional space, just as we can design your steel completely freely in the 3-dimensional space.
OUR HISTORY
Materials available on the market, as well as machines, were only designed for "mainstream" materials for known requirements. However, high-carbon steels, which form the basis for high levels of hardness, were not yet available on the market. Not to mention the necessary parameter sets. Accordingly, the first task for KOLIBRI Metals was to develop materials and parameters for tools that were previously not "printable".
The first development step was the tool steel 1.3343 known as M2. This high-speed steel with 0.9% carbon content provides the basis for many applications in toolmaking, but also in the automotive and machining industries.
Based on this requirement, KOLIBRI developed Metal-Matrix-Composites (MMCs), which provide unique performance for cutting or machining applications on a high-carbon steel base. Further product variations have followed so far and are permanently under development, which is continuously evolving and giving rise to new materials.
